Description
In urban areas of Japan these days, the number of closed schools and idle classrooms is increasing due to fewer children. With an anticipated increase in the number of such surplus facilities due to the further declining birth rate, their effective utilization is an essential task for school facilities in the future. This study aimed to develop conversion system for spare classroom in public elementary school and verify its effectiveness. First, we made field surveys to capacity of space in spare classroom of elementary schools and converting area were found out. Second, infill system in steel structure were designed without changing base building wholly, but enable to add, transfer and remove. Third, additional cladding system and extension building system were designed to improve it performance in transferring building use. In addition, we made the infill, cladding and extension building system were combined. Finally, the conversion design of total system were built up, and estimate of value about the cost, durability and total resource were found out.
