Abstract

The influence of disturbances caused by relatively high temperature and/or traffic noise on the occupants' performance was investigated in this study. Since a disturbance can arouse human sensation, three tasks with different levels of complexity were assigned to experimental subjects. The subjects performed the above three types of tasks for 30 min. After conducting these tasks, the subjects assessed air quality, the general environment, SBS symptoms, thermal comfort, and subjective fatigue symptoms. As the results of this experiment, it was observed that the higher the noise level, the higher the work speed and accuracy of a simple task (task A). On the other hand, it was observed that the higher the noise level, the lower the work speed and accuracy of a complex task (task B). Furthermore, it was found that the higher the temperature, the lower the work speed, but not accuracy of task A. A relatively high temperature had an adverse influence on the performance of task B. The arousal with traffic noise could have a positive effect on a simple task and a negative effect on a complex task. In a relatively high temperature condition, the subjects felt more absentmindedness and reported that it was more difficult to concentrate.
