Abstract

A new micro flow meter consisting of a capillary and a pressure gauge has been developed. When fluid flows the capillary, the pressure difference between the entrance and exit of the capillary and the Hagen-Poiseuille equation illustrate the flow rate. In case of the flow meter using a capillary with 0.46mm diameter and 60mm length, the steady pressure difference gives the flow rate of 50nl/s with an accuracy of ±3%. Even when changing the pressure difference with time, a compensation calculation gives the flow rate. Therefore, the flow meter enables the measurement of unsteady flow rate.
