Abstract

Characteristics for different moderation ratios and reactors are investigated with heavy water coolant. General design parameters with different moderation ratios along 0.1 to 50 and different reactor types are shown in table 1. Power output 3 GW-t is used by average power density of pellet 280 W/cc, and oxide fuel type with zircaloy-4 as cladding. The objective is to compare the enriched uranium requirement and conversion ratio performances for different reactor types. Calculation method was performed by using ECICS (Equilibrium Cycle Iterative Calculation System) and couple with SRAC cell calculation. Obtained results are shown in Fig.1 for once through case of all types and different moderation ratios. In required uranium enrichment and conversion ratio (CR) point of views the CANDU reactor type has lower value and for higher moderator to fuel ratio (MFR) those value will decrease along the MFR. Increasing number of discharge rate will gives better results for required enrichment and breeding capability.
