Abstract
This paper overviews standardization status of IP Optical networking technology which enables effective interworking of Optical and IP technology, advanced control, and new and legacy services creation and support. Generalized Multi Protocol Label Switching, or GMPLS is a key IP Optical networking technology and its basic parts has been standardized, including signaling, routing, link management protocol, and managed objects. While the interoperability is among the standardization topics, new topics in the area includes true networking technology which are advanced multi layer networking, traffic engineering, path computation, and layer 1 virtual private network enabling technologies. The overview on these technologies is given.
